The Communities: Boise is the largest city in the beautiful Treasure Valley. The Treasure Valley consists of Ada, Canyon and Elmore counties. These include Mountain Home, home of one of the largest Air Force bases in the United States, Nampa, site of the Snake River Stampede, one of America's top 25 rodeos and the communities of Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, Star, Emmett, Weiser, Wilder, Marsing, and Parma. The Boise metropolitan statistical area of Ada and Canyon counties has a total population of 465,000.
Climate & Recreation: The Treasure Valley's residents enjoy the wonder of all four seasons, but the weather is moderate enough to allow an average of 325 golfing days a year! Because of its location and elevation (2,842 Ft above sea level), Treasure Valley's climate is moderate. During the winter, snowstorms may blanket the nearby mountains but bring only rain in the valley. Occasional snow does enter the valley but a typical winter day consists of cool weather and blue skies. Summer raises the temperature into the mid 90's but the evenings are cool. There are many recreation amenities to appeal to all lovers of sports and the outdoors. In the winter months, Bogus Basin Ski Resort beckons. Bogus Basin is located just 16 miles from downtown Boise. This resort offers six double chairlifts, 45 major runs, cross country skiing and snow mobiling.
Idaho itself has 18 ski resorts, including world famous Sun Valley, just three hours northeast of Boise. In addition, just a few hours drive north of Boise, you can enjoy the resort towns of McCall
and Cascade. The drive offers incredible views of snowcapped mountains, deep forests and the towns offer Brundage Mountain Ski Resort as well as over 600 miles of snowmobile trails providing plenty to do in the winter! A short distance from the town of Cascade is North America's newest golf, ski and lakefront destination, Tamarack Resort.
In the summer months, the warm climate invites us to float the Boise River. The Boise River is skirted by over 25 miles of paved Greenbelt which is perfect for bikers, joggers, rollerbladers and walking. The Boise River is open for year round fishing, and in summer times is open for rafting, and tubers! One of Idaho's most beautiful white water rafting rivers, the Payette offers 1,400 miles of streams for a variety of summer activities! One can also enjoy water skiing and jet skiing on the many clear water lakes and local reservoirs. There are also many mountain peaks great for hiking and the local Boise Foothills contains numerous hiking trail and nature paths. There is plenty of space for residents to explore!
We are famous for our fishing! Popular local species include Rainbow, Kamloops, Cutthroat, Brown, Brook, Bull and Mackinaw trout.
Some local favorites include Brownlee Reservoir which is great for bass fishing, Paddock Reservoir is great for crappie fishing and Lucky Peak Reservoir is a great place to find some good trout. Game hunting is also a favorite pastime. Hunters enjoy deer, elk, moose, antelope, mountain lion, and black bear seasons. Bird hunters can enjoy the search for pheasant, grouse, partridge, Hungarian Partridge, wild turkey, quail, chuckars, doves, and waterfowl. We also have a huge population of resident geese and ducks.
Cultural Arts: For the cultural arts buff, we have regular theatre productions. Boise is home to several live theater companies including the 26-year old Shakespeare Festival. The Treasure Valley also features Opera Idaho, and the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, the Boise Symphony Orchestra, Boise Art Museum, the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts and ballet companies. We enjoy a wide range of music festivals including jazz, blues, modern, and bluegrass and have several large venues such as the Boise Taco Bell Arena on the Boise State University Campus, the newer Bank of America Centre in downtown Boise, and the Idaho Center in Nampa which host a large number of productions bringing diversity and great experiences to our city!
